Course selection process and time
Note: Please pay attention to the academic affairs announcement for specific procedures and times
Course selection and registration stage
Pre-selection stage
Begins in the semester preceding the corresponding semester.
- During the registration stage, you need to fill in the voluntary course selection. After the registration is completed, the system will draw lots. Generally, the lottery results can be viewed within one week after the pre-selection.
- It is recommended to take retake courses during pre-selection. There is no need to fill in the application form when retaking a course, you can be selected directly without being subject to class capacity restrictions. (Retake elective courses for the Department of Mathematics, Department of Foreign Languages, and Language Center are subject to course capacity restrictions. That is, if there are retake elective courses for courses in these three departments, the number of courses available will be reduced accordingly.)
- Credit limits for course selection are implemented for grades one to three (for details, please see Introduction to Course Selection Mechanism: Course Selection Credit Limits)
- If you are retaking physical education course, the course number is 88. Please select the course during pre-selection or main selection. Course selection will not be open when you withdraw from the selection.
- Freshman courses are open to existing students in the first stage of make-up and withdrawal.
Undergraduate freshmen pre-selection stage
It is usually held after the report and before the start of school.
- All compulsory, restricted, optional and physical education courses must be selected online.
- Students should pay attention to the statistical release of the registration status of the courses they have applied for. If they find that there are too many applicants for the course (especially the required courses), they should adjust the class in a timely manner to avoid or reduce the risk of lottery as much as possible.
- For courses that have been filled by existing students, registration will no longer be open during the pre-selection period for new students.
- After the pre-selection registration is completed, the system will draw lots. Generally, the lottery results can be viewed on the day registration closes.
Course selection adjustment stage
The following stages are arranged in chronological order.
Main selection stage
Begins one week after pre-selection ends.
- All courses are optional and can be deleted on a first-come, first-served basis. The Waiting List plan will be implemented after all courses are filled.

Introduction to course selection mechanism
Credit limit for course selection
In principle, undergraduate course elective credits per semester are not allowed to exceed the elective credit limit. Except for undergraduate physical education courses and retake courses, the credit limit for elective courses is usually 26 credits per semester for freshmen; 30 credits per semester for sophomores and juniors; and no credit limit for seniors and above. If it is necessary to exceed the credit limit due to special circumstances, students must apply online. Only after approval by the student's department, can they continue to choose courses.
Volunteer application rules
The undergraduate course selection interface has a total of five course selection pages.
- Compulsory courses - courses required to complete the training program
- Restricted elective courses - courses set up in the training plan that are not required but require a certain number of credits to be completed within a certain range
- Optional courses - courses with no restrictions on course selection (including general elective courses)
- Physical education course - one compulsory course every semester, unified selection for freshman year, special courses starting from sophomore year
- Retake a course - a course that you have failed in the past
During the course selection and registration stage, undergraduates’ required courses, limited elective courses, optional courses, and physical education pages are each divided into three levels of preference. Among them, the optional courses page for undergraduates has a priority preference. When students meet the priority selection conditions of the course, the system will automatically adjust their preference to priority preference. There is no need to fill in the application form for retake course selection.
Each level of choice has a certain limit on the number of courses to take. In principle, the first choice (highest choice) can fill in 1 course, the second choice can fill in 2 courses (the second choice in physical education can fill in 1 course), and the third choice (lowest choice) can fill in n courses. Except for physical education, you can only apply once for each course; physical education allows you to apply for different classes of the same course, but each person is limited to only one physical education course per semester.
Inquiry on volunteer application status and after-school hours inquiry
During the course selection and registration period, the course selection system will automatically count and publish the application status of each course according to the set time point. Students can view relevant information in the "Volume Application Status Inquiry" in "Course Selection Query" and adjust their course application level in a timely manner. In order to avoid the peak phenomenon in the late period of course selection, the application status will no longer be released during the last half day of course selection.
During the course selection adjustment stage, students can only choose courses with remaining courses. The remaining courses can be viewed in the "Course Availability Query" in "Course Selection Query".
Drawing rules
After the course selection registration is completed, for courses where the number of applicants exceeds the course capacity, the course selection system will conduct a background lottery based on the students' course selection priority.
The priority of course selection from high to low is: compulsory first, second, and third choice; restricted first, second, and third choice; optional first, second, and third choice.
The priority of undergraduate physical education courses is determined based on the level of application. Once a high-volume course is selected, the low-volume course will be automatically deleted.
Waiting List Course Selection Plan for Undergraduate Students
For courses that are open to undergraduates, if the course capacity is full, students can choose to enter the WL of the course. When there is room for the course, they can automatically fill in the course according to the WL queue order of the course.
WL is not implemented in undergraduate physical education classes.
P/F selection record
Undergraduate students can choose one optional course each semester, and the grade will be recorded as P (Passing) or F (Failure), with no grade points.
By-election for special reasons (hand selection)
For courses that must be taken under special circumstances but are not selected in the lottery, you can apply to the teacher for supplementary selection for special reasons. Click "Apply for Course Selection for Special Reasons" in the left navigation bar to start hand selection.
It is recommended to communicate with the teacher in advance about hand selection matters to avoid missing the course selection DDL.
Second-level course selection for experimental courses
For courses that include experimental courses, you must select the experimental course in the left navigation bar: Level 2 Course Selection.
Experimental classes are generally conducted in several time periods. During the second-level course selection, students need to choose a group in a time period, and subsequent experimental classes will be conducted according to the time arranged by this group.
For specific course selection arrangements and grouping arrangements, please pay attention to the course announcements of the selected courses; adjustments to the experimental class time and grouping, and make-up experiments need to be communicated with the teacher in charge of the experimental class.
